Farmington, Missouri (January 27, 2025) – The City of Farmington has implemented a new notification system that will allow City Light & Water customers to report water and electric outages via call or text message.
Beginning on January 27, 2025, all Farmington City Light & Water customers are encouraged to call or text the new outage phone number at 833-990-3370 in the event of a water or electric outage. The number can be accessed twenty-four hours a day, on weekends, and during holiday office closures. The new automated system will ask customers for details regarding the outage and immediately dispatch City Light & Water crews.
Important information, including the customer address, type of outage, and images, can now be easily accessed by City Light & Water crews and office staff. Crews can then update the status of the outage on-site, which will be reflected on the live outage map, now available at Farmington-mo.gov.
The new system, called Hometown Grid, was designed by a software company based in Murray, Kentucky, and acquired through a discount program being offered by the Missouri Public Utility Alliance (MPUA). The system promises to help increase response time and provide more accurate and timely information to customers. It will also reduce the call volume at Central Dispatch during after hours outages, freeing up phone lines for those reporting non-emergency calls in St. Francois County.
City Light & Water customers are encouraged to save the new phone number to report any future outages. It is also available at farmington-mo.gov. Office staff will still be available during regular business hours, but the new number is the recommended way to report outages because it automatically notifies crews within seconds.
